2. Type 2 Diabetes & Insulin Resistance
Reducing carbohydrate intake and shifting metabolism toward fats and ketones can significantly lower blood glucose and improve markers of insulin resistance, particularly in people with type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes.

Clinical research shows that carbohydrate-restricted and ketogenic approaches can reduce liver fat content, improve liver enzymes, and support overall liver metabolism.
By lowering circulating insulin and shifting fuel utilization toward fats and ketones, ketogenic nutrition addresses one of the root metabolic drivers behind NAFLD rather than only treating symptoms. 5. Cardiovascular Risk Improvement

8. Cognitive Decline, Dementia & Alzheimer’s Disease
The brain’s ability to use glucose often declines with age and is markedly impaired in Alzheimer’s disease, a problem sometimes described as “type 3 diabetes of the brain.” Ketones provide an alternative and efficient fuel for neurons that can bypass this glucose deficit, which may help support memory and cognitive function.
Clinical studies using ketogenic diets or ketone supplements have shown improvements in certain measures of attention, daily functioning, and brain energy metabolism in people with mild cognitive impairment and early Alzheimer’s disease. 9. Safety & Who Should Be Careful
A well-formulated ketogenic diet can be safe for many people, but it isn’t appropriate for everyone and often requires monitoring, especially when blood sugar or blood pressure medications are involved.
Most early side effects (fatigue, headache, constipation, dizziness) are linked to electrolyte and fluid shifts during adaptation and are usually manageable with correct planning.
Extra caution is recommended in situations such as type 1 diabetes (risk of ketoacidosis), pregnancy/breastfeeding, certain metabolic disorders, and when using medications like SGLT2 inhibitors or insulin, where medical supervision is essential.
